Kyndryl opens office in Kuala Lumpur
Earlier this year, Kyndryl had launched Southeast Asia’s first Mainframe Modernization Center of Excellence in Malaysia as well.
Regarded as the world’s largest IT infrastructure services provider, Kyndryl has opened its new office in Kuala Lumpur as the company aims to establish Malaysia as its ASEAN hub for mainframe modernization.
Prior to the opening of the new office, Kyndryl had launched Southeast Asia’s first Mainframe Modernization Center of Excellence (CoE) in Malaysia earlier this year. The CoE serves businesses across Southeast Asia by providing strategic guidance and mainframe expertise to help enterprises update, modernize, and migrate their legacy mainframe applications to a cloud-native environment.
A spinoff from IBM’s infrastructure division in 2021, Kyndryl has continued to grow its presence in the region. The reseller currently has serves enterprise customers in more than 60 countries worldwide. The new office is expected to also house Kyndryl’s Malaysian operations and further its mission to contribute to the country’s digital economy.
An innovative global leader in running and transforming the world’s mission-critical IT systems, Kyndryl is investing in local skills and building customers’ capabilities in key domains such as automation, cloud, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity and resiliency. The company has forged strategic partnerships to provide its customers in Southeast Asia with access to a broad range of technologies and capabilities.
“Kyndryl’s decision to choose Malaysia as their regional Centre of Excellence, and ASEAN hub for mainframe modernization speaks volumes of the conducive investment landscape in Malaysia. Clearly, our strong fundamentals, digital and physical infrastructure, continuous efforts to ease the investor’s journey, and rule of law have created a compelling value proposition for global investors to establish their bases in Malaysia,” said Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul, Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry of Malaysia.
He added that Kyndryl’s presence will also pave the way for strategic collaborations with other companies, particularly Malaysian SMEs, in industrial ecosystem, exactly the kind of outcomes targeted under Malaysia’s New Industrial Master Plan 2030.
Effendi Azmi Hashim, Country Managing Director, Kyndryl Malaysia and Indonesia will be leading Kyndryl Malaysia in the next phase of its evolution as the company works to help customers across ASEAN to run and transform their mission-critical IT systems.
“I look forward to seeing our teams thrive in this creative space as we focus on extending Kyndryl’s extensive capabilities and expertise to the Malaysian market,” said Hashim.
Datuk Muhammad Azmi Zulkifli, CEO of InvestKL also commented on the new office. He believes the opening of Kyndryl’s new office strengthens Greater Kuala Lumpur’s position as an emerging hub for modern technology services.
“Kyndryl is bringing its expertise to businesses who are moving to optimize their digital assets, focusing on cyber resilience and efficient use of cloud technologies, and leveraging data for AI. Most importantly, it is driving high-quality digital skills for Malaysians, adding vibrancy to our technology landscape and contributing to the nation’s growth and transformation,” said Zulkifli.
A modern facility designed to enable creativity and collaboration, Kyndryl’s new office provides the backdrop for Kyndryl to apply its technology expertise to support customers in modernizing, innovating and securing their businesses.
